Ten Percent Fines Value

The Ten Percent Fines Value test uses the same apparatus as the crushing value test, but instead of applying a fixed load, it determines the load required to produce exactly 10% fines. It is particularly useful for weaker aggregates, where the standard crushing value test can produce more than the expected proportion of fines and become less discriminating.
A higher TFV indicates a stronger aggregate, which is the opposite relationship to the crushing value percentage.
